A suspect has been arrested in the murder of Dionay Smith, the younger brother of Baltimore Police Department spokesman T.J. Smith.

Terrell Gibson, 21, was arrested on July 6 at his home in the 1800 block of Lafayette Street by the Warrant Apprehension Task Force. Gibson is charged with first and second degree murder, among other offenses.

Police quickly identified Gibson from surveillance video released after Smith’s murder. An arrest warrant was obtained a short time later.

According to police, at approximately 7:55 p.m. on July 2, Smith, 24, was killed by a single gunshot wound at his home in the 1400 block of Argyle Avenue.

T.J. Smith released a statement on Facebook thanking the Baltimore Police Department, the public, and those that were diligent in bringing justice for his brother’s murder.

Dionay Smith leaves behind three small children.
