Washington, DC –Tomorrow, April 22, 2016 at 2:00 pm, Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen will join Maryland Attorney General Brian E. Frosh, Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III, Assistant Prince George’s County Police Chief Hector Velez, and gun safety advocates with Marylanders to Prevent Gun Violence for a press conference to discuss the need for stronger handgun licensing laws to reduce gun violence.
Background: Congressman Van Hollen has introduced handgun licensing legislation to help protect communities from the daily toll of gun violence. New research shows that Maryland’s permit-to-purchase program, which Congressman Van Hollen’s bill would help to expand nationwide, is reducing straw purchases in Maryland, which are a major source of guns getting into the wrong hands.
