Junior guard Brandi Henton scored 17 points off the bench to lead the University of District of Columbia (UDC) Lady Firebirds women’s basketball team to a 67-56 win over Bridgeport on Feb. 13 in Bridgeport, Conn. The win advanced UDC’s overall record to 18-6, 13-3 against East Coast Conference (ECC) opponents, currently good for second place in ECC standings.
Bridgeport overcame a rough start in the first quarter, where they scored only seven points, to score 20 points in the second quarter. That second quarter surge helped them take a 27-26 lead over UDC into halftime. But the Lady Firebirds turned up their offense and defense in the second half and outscored Bridgeport, 41-29, through the third and fourth quarter.
Henton was too much to handle for Bridgeport; her 17 points led all UDC scorers. Senior forward Iman Scott scored 13 points for UDC and Taj Baldwin-Kollore added 10 points.
