The University of District of Columbia (UDC) women’s basketball team still sits atop the East Coast Conference (ECC) standings after grinding to a 70-59 win over Queens College on Dec. 19 at the UDC Sports Complex in Washington, D.C. It marked the sixth straight victory for UDC Lady Firebirds, who carry an 8-3 overall record, 4-0 in the ECC.

The contest was between two fierce competitors — UDC won the ECC regular season title last year but Queens ended up winning last season’s ECC Tournament championship.

In the latest matchup, however, UDC prevailed, thanks in large part to senior guard Tajruba Baldwin-Kollore, who went off on Queens for a game-high 27 points.

Queens kept the score tight in the first half – it was tied up, 32-32, at the halftime break. But Baldwin-Kollore and UDC took over in the third quarter, outscoring Queens, 15-4. UDC was then able to maintain its double-digit lead in the final quarter to secure the victory.

Baldwin-Kollore had plenty of help with senior forward Tiara Goode adding 12 points with seven rebounds, and fellow senior forward Tatyana Calhoun scoring nine points with 11 rebounds.
Next – The UDC women will break for the rest of 2015, playing its next game on Jan. 3 against  University of the Sciences in D.C.
