Rubin Davis, a 26-year-old rehabilitation counselor at the Phoenix Academy Drug Treatment Center, was shot to death June 26 in Mount Vernon, N.Y., lohud.com reports.
Davis graduated from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) in 2009 with a master’s degree in criminal justice. He has family in the Baltimore area.
According to the report, Davis was in the South Seven Avenue and West Fourth Street park shot accompanying a younger family member during the afternoon. It indicated he was approached by a man and during their brief conversation, which was not characterized as loud or hostile, Davis was shot in the chest by the unidentified suspect.
Mount Vernon detectives are still looking for clues. Police Commissioner Carl Bell said, according to lohud.com, “This makes no sense. … It doesn’t appear to be a random shooting.”
The park was full of people, according to the report, but Commissioner Bell said the police have not received any information from the public, including a description of the shooter.
