AP Photo-This photo of a poster provided by the Library of Virginia advertises the sale of slaves in Richmond, Va., in February 1812. The city was a slave-trading center, second only to New Orleans, in the half-century leading to the Civil War. A proposal to build a minor league baseball stadium in Shockoe Bottom, the citys oldest neighborhood and the center of the once-thriving slave trade, has drawn criticism from some who believe the area is sacred ground and shouldnt be bulldozed for a ballpark. The city says it will recover and display artifacts related to the slave trade. Photo/Library of Virginia
