Cherry-colored roses and heart-shaped candies are seemingly ubiquitous during the season of love, as couples prepare romantic rendezvous and candlelight dinners at pricey Inner Harbor eateries. While these annual dinners and gift packages can add up to a hefty sum in a matter of hours, a pre-Valentine’s Day comedy show featuring funnymen Smokey Suarez, Eric Frost and Kevin Anthony puts a new spin on a decidedly serious and expensive day.
On Feb. 13, “I Love to LOL Comedy Show” takes place at Towson’s American Legion Hall with a lineup of nationally and internationally-recognized entertainers, raffles, vendors, cash bar and a free beer for the first 100 guests.
Suarez, a no-holds-barred comedian with a signature raspy voice, has appeared on BET’s “Comic View,” “Def Comedy Jam” and Bill Bellamy’s “Who’s Got Jokes?” Similarly, Baltimore-bred Eric Frost is recognized as an uninhibited force on the national comedy scene and has landed spots on HBO’s “Comedy Underground” and the National Stand-Up Comedy Series of Charlottesville, Va. Rounding out the lineup of performers is veteran comedian Kevin Anthony, who has made a name for himself in the entertainment world after 20 years. He has opened shows for time-weathered comedians like Paul Mooney and been featured in Ebony and Sister 2 Sister Magazine.
Kenny & Clyde, also featured on “Def Comedy Jam,” hosts the night of laughs. Antonio Valdez of Renovatio Fashion and Comedy Tours, and Jay Daylight are the event organizers.
