Van Hollen Announces Senate Banking Subcommittee Assignments
Key Assignments Will Be Central to Fight on Consumer Protection, Wall Street Oversight

Washington, DC – Today U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen announced that he would serve on three subcommittees for the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs – the Subcommittee on Housing, Transportation, and Community Development, the Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Protection, and the Subcommittee on Securities, Insurance, and Investment.
“Maryland families want to make sure we’re holding Wall Street accountable and giving all families a fair shot at the American dream, and I look forward to serving on these three subcommittees,” said Senator Van Hollen. “In our state and across the country, we must address the need for affordable housing, better infrastructure, and stronger communities. We must build on the reforms we enacted with President Obama to protect consumers and make sure Marylanders never again face the huge financial disruptions that we saw with the Great Recession in 2008.”
Van Hollen added, “But Republicans have made it clear they want to unravel important reforms and gut vital investments. President-elect Trump has appointed a slew of millionaires and billionaires with deep ties to special interests to critical positions in his Administration. Working families need us to stand firm against efforts to rig the system in favor of the ultra-wealthy, and I’ll work with my colleagues to be a voice for Marylanders in that fight.”
