Van Hollen: On Equal Pay Day, Hogan Should Sign Bill to Close Gender Pay Gap
Washington, DC – Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen released the following statement on Equal Pay Day:
“Today is Equal Pay Day, when we draw attention to the gross inequity that women still earn significantly less than men for equal work in this country. The Maryland General Assembly recently passed legislation to help close the gender pay gap, and Governor Hogan should sign it immediately. For women in Maryland and across the country, equal pay isn’t just about dollars and cents – it’s about the ability to afford an education, put food on the table for their children, or save for retirement. We need to attack the gender pay gap on all fronts, which is why I have long supported legislation on the federal level, and why Governor Hogan should act immediately to ensure women in Maryland aren’t earning less than their male coworkers.”
