Van Hollen Opens Congressional App Challenge to High School Students in 8th Congressional District
Rockville, MD – Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen announced that the Congressional App Challenge is open for submissions from high school students in Maryland’s 8th Congressional District. Students can create and submit their own original apps for mobile phone, tablet, or computer platforms. Apps will be judged by a panel of local community leaders engaged in STEM fields, and winners will have their apps featured on a display in the U.S. Capitol building. More information and submission guidelines are available here.
“The Congressional App Challenge is a great way for Maryland students to develop skills in science and technology that will give them a competitive edge and jumpstart their careers,” Congressman Van Hollen said. “A workforce with STEM skills is essential to Maryland’s economic competitiveness, and this competition is a great way to inspire our next generation of entrepreneurs.”
The Congressional App Challenge was created by the U.S. House of Representatives to engage U.S. high school students in coding and computer science, given the importance of computer science and STEM skills for economic growth and innovation.
The submission period is open until 11:59 p.m. on January 15, 2016, and winners will be announced on February 22, 2016
