Van Hollen Statement on Maryland Gun Safety Initiatives
Washington, DC – Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen released the following statement on the gun safety legislation announced in the Maryland General Assembly:
“The common sense initiatives announced today will keep guns out of dangerous hands and save lives in Maryland. I commend Senate President Miller, House Speaker Busch, and every lawmaker brave enough to stand up to the gun lobby in the fight to keep our families and communities safe. I’m optimistic that these measures will soon become law and serve as further examples of Maryland’s leadership on gun safety.”
Congressman Van Hollen has long supported expanding federal background checks, closing the gun show loophole, banning assault weapons, preventing those on the terrorist watchlist from purchasing weapons, and other common sense gun safety measures. He hasintroduced legislation to help protect communities from the daily toll of gun violence, and has called on Governor Hogan to lead on the issue of closing the terrorist gun loophole.
