Van Hollen Statement on Restoration of Early Voting Sites in Montgomery County

Rockville, MD – Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen released the following statement after the Montgomery County Board of Elections voted to re-instate early voting centers in Burtonsville and Chevy Chase following the State Board of Elections’ rejection of their previous recommendation:

“This decision is great news for voters in Montgomery County and the health of Maryland’s democracy. I was proud to join with thousands of concerned citizens to urge the Maryland State Board of Elections to reverse course and prevent undue obstacles to voting. Today we have proof that positive change is possible when citizens are actively engaged and working to improve their communities.”

Last month, Congressman Van Hollen sent a letter to the Maryland State Board of Elections urging the rejection of the proposal. The letter is available here.
