DeMarco Murray rushed for 100 yards on 20 carries as the Dallas Cowboys cruised past Washington’s NFL team, 44-17, on Dec. 28 at FedEx Field in Landover, Md.

Murray broke the team’s single-season rushing record with 1,845 yards; Hall-of-Famer Emmitt Smith previously held the record with 1,773 yards in 1995.

Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant also broke a franchise record. Bryant caught scoring passes of 65 and 23 yards to bring his season total to 16 touchdown receptions, breaking Terrell Owens’ record of 15 in 2007.

Washington (4-12) took the lead midway through the first quarter when receiver DeSean Jackson caught a 69-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Robert Griffin III, his eighth reception of 50 or more yards this season. Jackson finished with two receptions for 86 yards.

Dallas (12-4) responded on the next drive with Bryant’s 65-yard touchdown reception to give the Cowboys a 10-7 lead.

With just under seven minutes left in the fourth quarter and Washington trailing 27-10, Griffin scored on a two-yard touchdown run to bring Washington within 10 points. However, on Washington’s next possession, Griffin lost a fumble after he was sacked by defensive tackle Terrell McClain. Defensive end Anthony Spencer recovered the fumble, and returned it five yards into the end zone for a touchdown.

On the following play, with a little more a minute left in the game, Washington turned the ball over again, leading to 65-yard touchdown by running back Joseph Randle to end the game.

Griffin completed 27 of 41 passes for 336 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo completed 22 of 34 passes for 299 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

The Cowboys played their starters for most of the game, and finished the regular season with an undefeated record on the road.
