Franchot to Present Schaefer Awards in Calvert and St. Mary’s; Recognize Maryland’s First Responders
– Proclamations Will Honor Sheriff’s Office and Rescue Squad –

WHAT: Comptroller Franchot will present the 2015 William Donald Schaefer Helping People Awards for St. Mary’s and Calvert Counties on Monday. In Leonardtown, the Comptroller will present the award to Cedar Lane Senior Living Community. Cedar Lane is a collaboration of non-profit organizations that have provided seniors with affordable housing and services for more than 38 years. In Prince Frederick, Comptroller Franchot will recognize Guffrie M. Smith Jr., an educator and leader in the Calvert community for more than 30 years.
The Comptroller will also tour the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office and present a proclamation to thank the officers for their dedicated service and bravery to the county. In addition, the Comptroller will stop by the Lexington Park Volunteer Rescue Squad to meet the volunteer paramedics and present a proclamation thanking them for the countless lives they have saved.
