Veteran health care executive Sandra Austin has been named the new chief executive officer of Howard University Hospital (HUH), the university announced recently.

Austin previously served as managing director of Alvarez & Marsal Healthcare Industry Group, as chief management officer for the Louisiana State University Interim Public Hospital in New Orleans,  and in several other strategic leadership positions at large hospitals over the past 35 years.

In addition to Austin, the hospital welcomed several other new members to its management team–all  from Alvarez & Marsal Healthcare. The changes were part of a management services agreement   entered into by Howard University with Paladin Healthcare on Oct. 6. The new senior leaders and other hospital managers have assumed responsibility for day-to-day operations of the hospital under the oversight of a joint Howard University and Paladin Healthcare Management Committee. Howard  University continues to be the licensed operator of HUH.
