Comptroller Franchot to Tour New Waverly Elementary/Middle School in Baltimore

WHAT:          Comptroller Franchot will join school officials and elected leaders on a tour of the new, $27 million Waverly Elementary/Middle School in Baltimore Tuesday morning. The 118,000-square-foot, three-story building  features a centrally-located media center, computer labs, science labs, a gymnasium, cafeteria and specialized classrooms designed for art, music and special education. Site improvements include new bio-retention ponds, landscaping, sidewalks, playground, a soccer field and an outdoor basketball court.

The Waverly project also is on track to achieve a Silver-level rating under the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED® Rating System for sloped ceilings in classrooms to bounce daylight deeper, reducing the need for artificial light; for low-flow, sensored plumbing to reduce overall water use; high performance glass and energy-efficient mechanical systems to reduce energy use; and multiple biofiltration areas to treat and manage storm water.
