Prince George’s County, Md. police are investigating a two-car collision in Upper Marlboro on Oct. 28 that resulted in the death of a 17-year-old and serious injuries for two others.

Alex Edward Cole, 17, of Derby Manor Lane in Upper Marlboro was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred in the 2800 block of Ritchie Marlboro Road at 7:10 a.m.

The occupants of one of the cars involved were all students or alumni of Henry A. Wise Jr. High School. Two of the survivors were taken to Prince George’s Hospital where they were listed in critical condition, according to Wise principal Carletta Marrow.

She said one of the critically injured was Aaron Cole, 17, twin brother of the deceased youth. The brothers graduated from Wise five months ago, she said.

Also in the car was Addison Ford, 17, a current student at Wise, and a 23-year-old who is a Wise alumnus.

According to police, the vehicle carrying the Wise students was traveling southbound on Ritchie Marlboro Road and crossed into the northbound lane, where it collided with another vehicle.

The driver of the second car was not identified, but was treated for non-life threatening injuries, police said. A police spokesman said speed appeared to be a factor in the collision.

Students at Wise said they were stunned by news of the early morning accident. One student said, “This hit me hard in so many ways.”

“This is unbelievable,” another said. “Just waking up and going down my Instagram and looking at a picture of him like ‘Hey there’s Alex,’ just to see ‘RIP’ written across it. Not knowing how he died or when. It’s just too unreal.”

Marrow issued a letter to staff and students about the fatal collision.
