Comptroller to Visit Howard County; Tour High School, Honor Businesses and Fire Department

WHAT: In his capacity as a member of the Board of Public Works, which approves state school construction funding, Comptroller Peter Franchot will tour Howard High School Thursdaymorning. More than 60 years old, the school is an example of how a well-maintained school has a positive impact on educational outcomes. Joining him on the tour will be County Executive Allan Kittleman. Afterwards, the Comptroller will visit the Dancel Family Center Y, which has served the community since the 1970s. Mr. Franchot will present a proclamation recognizing the Y’s contributions to Jill Black, vice president and director of operations.
The Comptroller then will visit Kupcakes & Co., a family-owned business that specializes in gourmet cupcakes and custom cakes, and present a proclamation to owner Michelle Kupiec. Kupcakes & Co. bakes and decorates more than 10,000 cupcakes each week and supports the community through local charities. His last stop will be at Elkridge Volunteer Fire Department, where he will present a proclamation to EVFD President Julie Casey recognizing the department’s 73 years of service to the community. The department’s first call was an air raid alert on Nov. 6, 1942.
