NFL New England Patriot linebacker Brandon Spikes seems to be doing his hitting off the field rather than on it: He recently pleaded guilty in a Massachusetts court to culpability in a hit-and-run crash, in which three people were injured, according to news reports.

Spikes appeared in the Wrentham District Court on July 1, where he admitted to negligent operation of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of personal injury, operating an uninsured vehicle, speeding and a marked-lanes violation, according to Fox News.

One June 7, police found a damaged Mercedes-Benz Maybach deserted in the middle of Interstate 495 in Foxborough, Mass., at the scene of the accident.

At the same time they found Spikes’ car, the driver and passengers of a Nissan Murano SUV reported to police that they had been struck from behind by a vehicle, which had left the scene.  Three people were injured from the crash and were treated for minor injuries, according to ESPN.

The Patriots cut the linebacker from their roster as a result of the incident. Spikes will serve a year of probation.
