Comptroller to Spend Thursday in Harford and Carroll Counties

Franchot to Present Two Schaefer Awards, Speak at Luncheon and Visit Nonprofit

WHO:             Comptroller Peter Franchot

WHAT:           Comptroller Franchot will present the 2016 Harford County William Donald Schaefer Helping People Award to Welcome One Emergency Shelter in Belcamp Thursdaymorning. It is the only full-service emergency homeless shelter open year-round in Harford County.

Mr. Franchot then will speak at the Harford County Chamber of Commerce luncheon in Havre De Grace to give members an update on Marylandโ€™s economy, an overview of this yearโ€™s tax season and discuss his ongoing efforts to combat tax fraud and identify theft.

He then will travel to Westminster, where he will present the 2016 Carroll County William Donald Schaefer Helping People Award to Ritaโ€™s Closet. Founded in 2012 to honor the life of Rita Marie Medeiros, Ritaโ€™s Closet accepts donations of new and lightly used designer dresses, which are then offered at discounted prices (and occasionally free) to the community.

Later that afternoon, the Comptroller will visit Access Carroll Integrated Health Care, a nonprofit community health clinic that offers free medical, dental and behavioral health services to uninsured, low-income Carroll County residents who meet certain eligibility requirements.
