Comptroller to Spend Monday in Prince George’s
Franchot to visit St. Ann’s Center, Bladensburg Visitor Center, Forest Heights Municipal Building; Will Speak at Greenbelt City Council Meeting
WHO: Comptroller Peter Franchot
WHAT: Comptroller Franchot will tour three sites Monday in Prince George’s County that have received capital funding approved by the Board of Public Works in recent years. The first stop is St. Ann’s Center for Children, Youth and Families, which got $750,000 in the FY 2010 capital budget for design, construction, renovation and improvements. The non-profit works to lift vulnerable children, mothers and families out of poverty and homelessness.
The Comptroller then will tour the Battle of Bladensburg Visitor Center. The center received $125,000 in FY 2012 capital bond bill funding for construction and renovations. The visitor center uses photos, artifacts and other media to tell the story of the people, places and events of the War of 1812 in Prince George’s County.
Mr. Franchot will next visit the Forest Heights Municipal Building, which received $200,000 in FY 2009 capital bond bill funding. The state aid required a match and went toward the repair, renovation, reconstruction and capital equipping of the building.
At the evening Greenbelt City Council meeting, the Comptroller will discuss Maryland’s economic and fiscal outlook and give an overview of the 2016 tax filing season and talk about his legislative initiatives, including his fight against taxpayer fraud and identity theft.
