We gather today not just to remember history,
but to answer it.
Because history does not move on its own.
It waits for people willing to act
when comfort would be easier
and silence would be safer.
Black history teaches us this truth without apology:
progress is never handed down
it is carried forward.
Carried by those who refused to ask,
โWhat works for me?โ
and chose instead, โWhat is right?โ
Not, โWho agrees?โ
but, โWho is served?โ
So let me ask you:
Is remembrance enough?
Or does this moment require responsibility?
Because Black History Month is not just a celebration it is accountability.
Accountability for how we educate our children.
For how we honor our elders.
For what we tolerate in our neighborhoods.
And for the leadership we accept or refuse.
Every generation is given a moment.
Not to inherit the future,
but to shape it.
And this moment is asking plainly:
Will we choose courage over comfort?
Service over self?
Action over applause?
Because history will not remember our intentionsโ
only our decisions.
So let us leave this place resolved
to lift as we climb,
to lead with integrity,
and to build what we once prayed for.
Not because it is easy,
but because it is necessary.
The work continues.
The responsibility is ours.
And the future is waiting.
