There is certainly an undeniable bond that exists between brothers and sisters, especially when an opportunity presents itself to share in a larger-than-life experience. Beloved brother and sister duo BeBe and CeCe Winans and the dynamic spirit-filled sisters Mary Mary will join their voices in praise on the stage of the Lincoln Theatre on April 6 at 7:30 p.m.
CeCe Winans recently spoke from her home about the unique opportunity to collaborate with Mary Mary on the “Still Something Big Tour.”
“We are just fans and so excited that we get to hear them every night, especially with BeBe and I being brother and sister. With them being sisters makes it special. It’s like one big family and a great opportunity to come together,” said Winans.
For Winans, this collaboration is something she’s looked forward to.
“A long time…we have been planning this for a long time and finally it has happened,” she added. “Scheduling, marketing and rehearsals finally lined up. We are excited about this time to lift our voices, which would be just that without the power of the Holy Spirit. It is going to be an awesome time.”
The Winans come from a celebrated musical family, with many relatives enjoying successful careers in gospel music. Erica and Tina Campbell comprise the groundbreaking duo Mary Mary. Since their arrival on the contemporary gospel music scene in 2000 with the crossover hit “Shackles,” the sisters have enjoyed considerable success, which includes three Grammy Awards. Erica of Mary Mary said, “It’s not just about musical achievements, awards, charts and sales. That’s not our guiding light.
It’s about connecting with people and offering them real hope…hope that, ultimately, changes lives.”
BeBe and CeCe Winans won two Grammys this year, which came as a surprise to them.
“We did not expect it. It has been 15 years since the last time. This year, we won two and it is amazing to be acknowledged, encouraged, received and recognized by your peers. It is just an honor. We never expect the accolades from the audience, except the audience of one. After all these years, it is extra special and it humbles me and we are honored by the support.” said Winans.
Music is said to be “the universal language.” For centuries, inspirational music has lifted the burdens of many during hard trials. Winans shared the overall message of the tour, which is hope.
“When things look hopeless, there is a God in control…you have to be anchored in the King of Kings. What I realize is that no one thing takes God by surprise. We know someone that knows the beginning and the end…he specializes in the impossible and offers the peace that passes all understanding.”
Winans said the tour also has a special message for youth.
“Keep your relationship with the father. Be who you are. Nobody can beat you at being you,” Winans said. God will open every door that needs to be opened and close every door that needs to be closed.”
