The Morgan State University Bears took another lopsided loss, falling 58-13 to the Bowling Green State University Falcons Sept. 10 in Bowling Green, Ohio.

It was the second straight week the Bears were blasted on the road following a 42-3 loss to the Towson Tigers in their Sept. 3 season opener.

Morgan State surrendered 572 total yards to Bowling Green and quarterback Matt Schilz, who completed 16 of 23 passes for 258 yards and 5 touchdowns. Bowling Green running back Anthon Samuel also performed well, rushing for 122 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries. Jordan Hopgood contributed 90 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries for the Falcons.

Travis Davidson, who rushed for 89 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries in the loss, led Morgan State.

โ€œThe things we set out to do, we didn’t win,โ€ said MSU coach Don Hill-Eley. โ€œBut one of things that I saw is that the guys didn’t quit. There’s a lot of good things that we’ll definitely take from the game.โ€

Among them is discovery of a new starting quarterback, as redshirt freshman Robert Council has now officially surpassed junior Donovan Dickerson for the spot. Council completed 4 of 19 passes for only 32 yards, but also rushed for 51 yards.

โ€œI thought he played real good,โ€ Hill-Eley said. โ€œHeโ€™s definitely our starter. He did a good job and we pulled him in the second half just to see what kind of depth we really have with the other two guys. But again, I thought he did a really good job with moving the offense; we just have to do a better job with making the plays. There were too many dropped balls today.โ€

Morgan State will go for their first win of the season when they travel back to Baltimore to host Robert Morris Sept. 17 at Hughes Stadium.
