By The Stansbury Family 

Marcus Goodsil Stansbury Sr, was born in Baltimore, Md. to Mary and Clayton Stansbury on May 14, 1920. His family moved to Havre de Grace, Md. when he was young. Marcus attended the Havre de Grace Colored School during his formative years and graduated in 1937. His father was very instrumental in creating a school where the African-American youth could attend school. After serving five years in the U.S. Army during World War II, he attended Howard University for several years. After his time at Howard he moved back to Havre de Grace where he eventually landed a civilian job working at Aberdeen Proving Ground as an electronic technician and retired in 1972.

He married Florence Snowden (now deceased) and raised two children, Marcus Stansbury Jr and Sharon Stansbury. Marcus Jr. lives in Aberdeen, Md. with his wife Cheretta, and his daughter, Sharon lives in Lithonia, Ga. He has one grandson, Marcus Stansbury III, currently serving in the U.S. Air Force stationed at Langley Air Force base in Virginia. He is a lifelong member of St. James A.M.E. Church in Havre de Grace, and became a Lay minister in 1963.
