On January 15, Washington Wizards star Gilbert Arenas pleaded guilty  to a felony charge of carrying a firearm without a license in Washington, D.C.

Arenas pleaded guilty in D.C. Superior Court as part of a deal which will guarantee him receiving a penalty on the low end of the capital’s sentencing guidelines.

Without the plea bargain, the 28-year-old Los Angeles, Calif. native could have received the maximum five-year sentence for violating the District’s strict gun laws. Arenas will remain free until his sentence hearing on March 26. He has been suspended indefinitely from the NBA.? Arenas admitted to federal authorities that he illegally stored guns in his locker room at the Verizon Center, and took them out as part of a “misguided joke” he attempted to play on teammate Javaris Crittenton, on December 21

Crittenton is also being investigated by federal authorities on allegations that he brandished his own pistol during the incident.
