“Queen of Soul” Aretha Franklin has cancelled two free Brooklyn concerts due to an accident that resulted in fractured ribs and pain in her abdomen.

According to a report by The Post Chronicle, Franklin took a tumble while in her bathtub on August 1.

In a statement released by her management agency, Franklin said she was looking forward to the performances at Wingate Field in East Flatbush on August 9 and Asser Levy Park in Brighton Beach on Aug. 12.

“I was very much looking forward to being in Brooklyn and having a foot-long hot dog at Coney Island” she said, “Hopefully, I will get it before the end of August.”

Franklin’s concerts, her first in Brooklyn, were a part of the Seaside Summer Concert Series hosted by Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz.

“All of Brooklyn wishes Aretha Franklin a speedy recovery,” Markowitz said in a statement. “For the more than 30 years that I have been presenting free concerts here, Ms. Franklin has been at the top of my wish list, and that dream was about to come true. We hope to reschedule with her when she’s feeling better—and we Brooklynites will be thrilled to welcome the Queen of Soul to the County of Kings.”

Now in its 32nd year, the music festival is the largest free concert series in New York.
Franklin’s management and concert organizers hope to reschedule her performances for a later date.
