Baltimore, MD — November 2025 — The Presidents’ Roundtable (PRT), an organization of high-growth African American business owners committed to economic empowerment and community impact, last week voted on a leadership transition as Jeff Hargrave steps down as chair. James Makia, an accomplished business leader and long-standing member of the Baltimore business community, has been appointed as the new chair of the organization.

The Presidents’ Roundtable has appointed longtime Baltimore business leader James Makia as its new chair, succeeding Jeff Hargrave, as the organization launches a 2026 Strategic Plan focused on revitalization, innovation, and expanded impact for minority entrepreneurs.

Mr. Hargrave, who has led PRT with vision and dedication, has been instrumental in strengthening the organization’s influence and advancing opportunities for minority entrepreneurs across the Baltimore/Washington metropolitan region. Under his leadership, PRT expanded its partnerships, enhanced member engagement, and deepened its commitment to business capacity building and community development.

Stepping into the role of chair, James Makia brings more than two decades of entrepreneurial experience and a strong record of leadership in the automotive industry.

As founder and CEO of a leading regional automotive enterprise, Mr. Makia has built a multimillion-dollar operation through strategic growth, innovation, and workforce development. His civic involvement includes serving on the boards of the MidAtlantic Regional Independent Dealer Association (MARIADA), Vehicles for Change, Full Circle, and participation in the CEO Club of Baltimore. He was also recognized as the 2022 Maryland State Quality Dealer by MARIADA for his business excellence and community commitment.

“I am honored to follow in Jeff Hargrave’s footsteps and continue the work of advancing access, opportunity, and wealth creation among African American business owners,” said Makia. “Our 2026 Strategic Plan represents a new chapter for PRT — one focused on revitalization, innovation, and expanding our collective impact.”

The Presidents’ Roundtable’s 2026 Strategic Plan will focus on strengthening member collaboration, broadening resource access, and expanding advocacy efforts that support sustainable minority business growth throughout the region.

Mr. Makia will host his first official event as chair — the Presidents’ Roundtable Holiday Mixer — on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, from 6:30 to 9:30 PM. The event will celebrate PRT’s achievements, honor its outgoing leadership, and introduce the organization’s renewed strategic direction for the coming year.
