There’s always standing room only when the Community Concert Choir of Baltimore sings, and their Nov. 2 concert at Enon Baptist Church is sure to be no exception. This will be the fifth annual Fall concert by the choir that has more than 150 singers, who will present a full concert of sacred music selections.

Sponsored by the Delta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity to support educational activities and programs for students in Baltimore area schools, the event, as those in the past, is sure to bring in several thousand dollars in contributions for the students.

“We’re honored that Delta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha helps this choir’s mission to promote the rich music of the African-American Church tradition, while also raising funds to uplift students across the Baltimore community.” said Marco K. Merrick, founding director of the CCC.  “Most churches no longer include this wonderful music in their services, which is a grave disservice to our heritage and communities. This annual concert helps us preserve and share music, as well as support the importance of educating and enriching school students.  There’s room for all who love good music and value positive opportunities for our children.”

During the free concert on Nov. 2, one of Baltimore’s noted classically trained church organists W. Patrick Alston, and pianist and music educator at Baltimore City College High School Marcus D. Smith will accompany the ecumenical choral aggregation. The concert includes choral selections from classical composers of anthems, Negro spirituals, hymns and traditional gospel songs.

The 4 p.m. concert will be held at Enon Baptist Church, 601 Edmondson Avenue (corner of N. Schroeder St.) Baltimore, MD 21217. A freewill offering will be received during the concert and a reception will be held for everyone in the Arthur J. Payne Fellowship Hall following the concert.

Fraternity members Bro. Timothy McFadden and Bro. R. Anthony Mills are co chairs for the concert and Bro. Steven D. King is president of Delta Lambda Chapter.
