The current BALTIMORE COUNTY DEMOCRATIC STATE CENTRAL COMMITTEE (BCDSCC), known as the Baltimore County Democratic Party, was elected June 26, 2018 during the Democratic Primary Election. Elected BCDSCC members were sworn-in at a ceremony on August 4, 2018 and will serve until the Primary Election in 2022. Every voting member of the Central Committee serves as a Democratic Party official.

Democratic National Committee bylaws require that every jurisdiction in the United States attempt to have gender balance among those individuals serving as Democratic Party officials. Recent changes to the Baltimore County Democratic State Central Committee’s composition has now created a need to add two male At-Large members to regain gender balance. Unlike elected members At-Large members do not represent a single district, but serve countywide.

BCDSCC is attempting to fill the two vacancies with two qualified male residents of Baltimore County and invites candidates to apply. Each applicant must have been a registered Democrat at the time of the last Primary Election. Members of the Nomination Committee of BCDSCC are charged with making a recommendation to the full Committee of a new member who will serve as an “At Large” (does not represent a district) member of the BCDSCC for the reminder of the current four year term.

Applicants must be a male U.S. citizen who is a registered Democratic voter whose permanent residence is in Baltimore County. Interested individuals must submit 1) a fully completed BCDSCC application, 2) a resume, and 3) a letter of interest indicating their professional, civic and political experience and why they are interested in serving on the BCDSCC. Up to two written references may also be submitted, however, they are totally optional.

Box 19092, Towson, MD 21286 no earlier than Thursday, September 17, 2020 and no later than 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2020.

What is the Democratic State Central Committee?

The Central Committee is the grass roots backbone of the Maryland Democratic Party. Composed of activists and community leaders, it provides a core of enthusiastic workers and organizers. The Central Committee is constituted under Maryland’s Election Law to govern the Democratic Party. Each county and Baltimore City has its own central committee to manage party affairs in its jurisdiction. Central Committee members are elected at primary elections every four years. Any registered Democrat can run for a seat on his or her county’s central committee. To advance the party’s principles and help elect Democrats to public office, committee members register and assist voters, staff events, work at polls, fairs, and phone banks, raise funds and resources, and support the party organization. In addition, the committee recommends appointments to the Governor for the Baltimore County Board of Elections and helps to fill vacancies in certain elected offices. Central Committee members are expected to attend monthly local meetings and periodic statewide meetings.
