A home invasion in South Baltimore left one woman dead and two others injured after a man broke into their home and opened fire on the trio as they sat in the living room of their row home.

According to city police, on March 25, they received a call for a shooting in the 3800 block of 8th Street, in Brooklyn. When officers arrived, they found two women and one man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

“One adult female victim, identified as Johniece Sheppard, 21, was transported to an area hospital and despite medical efforts was pronounced dead at 10:56pm,” Det. Sarah Connolly said in a statement. “A juvenile female victim and adult male victim were also transported to area hospitals, she is in critical conditional at this time, he is in stable condition.”

On March 26, police announced 27-year-old Laser Womack of the 2700 block of Round Road was arrested and charged with first degree murder and attempted murder—in addition to multiple handgun violations.

According to charging documents, Womack was named by witnesses to be a member of the Black Guerilla Family (BGF) and was said to have been armed with a .45-cal handgun.

According to court documents, in 2007 Womack was found guilty of possession with the intent to distribute narcotics in Anne Arundel County and sentenced to 12 years in prison.

“This was not a random event,” said Baltimore Police.
