The Dunbar Poets advanced to the Maryland Class 2A North Regional finals after shutting out Carver Vo-Tech, 44-0, in a semi-final matchup on Nov. 15 at William “Sugar” Cain Field in Baltimore, Md.

The Poets will face Patterson, who claimed a shutout of their own in a 43-0 win over Randallstown on Nov. 16.

Dunbar rallied around the return of senior running back Coleman Blackston, who hadn’t played since Oct. 11 due to an injury. Blackston had an outstanding game, rushing for 104 yards and two touchdowns. Both of Blackston’s scores came in the first half as Dunbar took a 22-0 halftime lead.

Dunbar’s senior receiver Dominic Miller also performed well, catching six passes for 111 yards including a 13-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Will Crest in the second half. Miller also returned a punt 70 yards for a touchdown.

Plyvon Prior led Dunbar on defense with 13 tackles and Eddie Nelson added 11 tackles and two sacks.

Dunbar now has a 9-2 overall record, while Carver Vo-Tech ended their season with an 8-3 record.
