Fashionistas, bathing beauties, and lifeguards—is your wardrobe ready to stroll the sugary-sand beaches of the British Virgin Islands? As the warmth of summer breathes across you, have you decided what resortwear you will fashion? Will your plans to scuba dive, snorkel, sail or swim show off luxury bikinis, one-piece swimsuits and men’s board shorts? Let me tell you how to style your best: wear the Trèfle Designs Atacama 2016 swimwear and resortwear collection.
Trèfle Designs is owned by Kristin Frazer, a celebrated Caribbean fashion designer based out of her hometown of Tortola, BVI. Her luxury swimwear company is unique, it is fly, and it is the vogue. Frazer has designed swimwear for Grammy-award winning “Lemonade” songstress Beyoncé and her daughter Blue Ivy.
“I want to keep it really unique, really special, and keep it one hundred percent Caribbean,” with a distinctive British accent, Frazer said.
Grammy-award winning songstress Chrisette Michele is the official ambassador and wears the Botanical Garden Resort collection on the Trèfle website.
Frazer’s latest was inspired by the rich pastel flowers that burst out of the very dry Atacama desert, where rainfall rarely occurs. In sharp contrast, Frazer blended the floral inspiration with BVI’s cerulean seascape, plentiful in water. The mood resulted in a mesmerizing harmony of playful color, a wispy sense of summer with a watercolor splash.
True to her native land, Frazer worked with local designers to create one-of-a-kind hand-illustrated artwork, using the Atacama desert floral hues of pinks, yellows, oranges, blues, purples and greens to create a floral print and a watercolor print.
“Where I can grow, my community can grow,” Frazer said. “Tourists absolutely love the artwork print, they want to take something home with them.”
The Atacama collection offers twisted bandeau bikini tops and the high waist “Beyoncé” bottom, a signature Trèfle design. Other pieces, the ruffled one-piece with tummy control and underwire, colorblocked tunic, pants, keyhole resort dress, laser wrap dress and throw top are available in the watercolor print and the floral print. All apparel is luxurized with the new gold plated Trèfle logo and embossed garment bag.
“This collection is very feminine,” said Bianca Chardei, a model, television personality, and “America’s Next Top Model” alum. “I like the usage of multiple colors and patterns. The fabric and shape of the garments accentuate the curves of a woman.”
The Atacama collection also offers accessories in those signature prints, including soft/hardcover journals, leather wristlets, keychains and tassels.
In 2014, Frazer won the Karib Nation, Inc., Caribbean “Award of Excellence” in Fashion and the British Virgin Islands Chamber of Commerce and Hotel Association “Pioneer of the Year” Award. The BVI Department of Trade and Consumer Affairs honored Trèfle Designs as the “September 2015 Business of the Month.”
Frazer, who interned for Carolina Herrera and BCBG Max Azria, holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fashion Design and Marketing from the International Academy of Design and Technology in Tampa, Fla.
