The newly formed Ben Holt Memorial Branch of the National Association of Negro Musicians recently announced its local scholarship competition in voice. Contestants between the ages of 18-30 pursuing vocal music study are encouraged to apply. The competition will be held in two rounds, with the first round taking place March 19 at 4 p.m., and the final round on March 20, 7 p.m., at Sixth Presbyterian Church in N.W. Washington, D. C. The winner of the local competition will represent the Washington, D. C. branch at the regional convention in April.

??All materials are to be sent in as a complete competition packet consisting of application, competition fee in the form of a check/money order made payable to the Ben Holt Memorial Branch and a CD recording including one aria and one art song. All materials are to be mailed to local branch Takoma Park Baptist Church, to the attention of Patrick D. McCoy, 635 Aspen Street, N.W.,D.C. 20012.  

Ben Holt Jr. Memorial Branch of NANM, was born out of memories of renowned operatic baritone and District native Ben Holt, who performed with esteemed organizations like the Virginia Opera, Metropolitan Opera and New York City Opera. Holt’s career was cut short with he lost a battle with cancer at age 35.
