Fuquay-Varina, N.C. – The Bethune-Cookman College Wildcats were voted the Boxtorow.com/BASN HBCU football Power Rankings national champions in the final top10 media and coaches polls. The Wildcats received 10 of 20 first place votes in the media poll and received 14 of 15 first place votes in the coaches’ poll.

In the media poll the Albany State Golden Rams, who completed an undefeated regular season, had a first round bye in the NCAA Division II Playoffs, and defeated Wingate in the second round of the playoffs, finished second.

Southwestern Athletic Conference champion Texas Southern University, who defeated Alabama State University 11-6 in the SWAC Championship Game, finished in third place. South Carolina State University, who was No.1 the majority of the year, finished fourth while Grambling University, who also received two first-place votes, finished fifth.

Florida A&M, shared the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference title with Bethune-Cookman and South Carolina State, finished sixth. Tuskegee University, Jackson State University, Morehouse and Alabama State rounded out the top 10.

The last HBCU football game of the season is the Russell Athletic HBCU Bowl, which pits the top 100 draft-eligible seniors in an all-star atmosphere displaying their talents in front of scouts. The game, with its East-West style format, will take place on Dec. 18 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. The game will be broadcast nationally on Classics Sports Radio Network and online at www.classicsportsradio.com. Below is the full final top 10 power ranking for both media and the coaches.
