The Bowie State (BSU) Bulldogs managed to end a three-game losing streak as they escaped with a 22-10 road win against Central Interscholastic Athletic Association (CIAA) opponent Lincoln University on Oct. 15 in West Grove, Pa. The Bulldogs now advance to a 4-3 overall record, 3-2 in the CIAA.

Bowie State relied mostly on its rushing attack, putting the ball into senior running back Tariq Jones’ hands 33 times as he rushed for a career-high 171 yards. Jones also scored the game’s first points on a seven-yard touchdown run just five minutes into the opening quarter.

BSU junior quarterback Tyrae Reid scored the team’s only other touchdown on a 36-yard run late in the fourth quarter that helped seal the win. Bowie’s senior kicker Michael Gagne converted two key field goals for the Bulldogs, including a 38-yarder in the second quarter.

“The win was something we definitely needed but Tariq played a great game tonight and answered the bell as our senior running back and we knew we had to run the ball in order to be successful,” said BSU third-year head coach Damon Wilson.

The Bulldogs will head for Elizabeth City, N.C. on Oct. 22 to face CIAA opponent Elizabeth City University.
