According to the New York Post, James Capers, 22, is accused of shooting and killing Allen McQueen, 21, in broad daylight on July 7 while McQueen was spending quality time with his one-year-old daughter Taylor. New York Police Commissioner Bill Bratton said the shooting was gang related.
When McQueen was shot, his daughter fell to the ground crying and covered in her father’s blood, according to reports. Prior to his death, McQueen had been arrested 23 times and was currently involved with a street gang by the name of “Taylor Crew,” according to the New York Daily News.
Capers was arrested on July 15 and has been held without bond since his arrest on charges of second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon according to the Post.
Capers previously served an 18-month sentence for a Bronx drug conviction and has been arrested nine other times dating back to 2009. Capers also faces prosecution for a May 21 robbery and a June 25 weapon possession case.
