What: Nancy by SNAC (Station North Arts Cafe), is the second eatery (their first restaurant SNAC opened in 2005) by partners Brown and Maughlin in the Station North community in September 2013. Brown is the head chef at Nancy, which focuses on tasy lite fare, serving breakfast and lunch 8:00 AM-3:00 PM, Monday through Friday, and Saturday 9:00 AM-3:00 PM. Nancy is closed on Sundays.
Like SNAC, Nancy is also an art gallery, and is housed within the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) building at 131 W. North Ave.
Brown (known as “Downtown” Kevin Brown), a Baltimore renaissance man (he was an editor for the AFRO and a reporter for the Sun has infused Nancy with his whimsical, yet very cogent energy, with a heavy dose of his hero, the great James Baldwin.
“I’ve had every job in the world, this is my favorite job of all,” said Brown, a quintessential native son of Baltimore. “Baltimore native, born on the Westside, live on the Eastside; born, raised, educated, married, divorced here. This is my town, I’m never leaving it.”
