Butler University’s men’s basketball squad shocked the world when they advanced all the way to the NCAA Championship game in 2010, but would it be a surprise if they reached the finals again?

The No. 8-ranked Bulldogs took one step closer to finding out as they took out No. 4 ranked Wisconsin, 61-54, on March 24 in the Southeast Region Semifinals at New Orleans Arena.

Senior Forward Matt Howard, who scored 20 points with 12 rebounds, led Butler. Junior Guard Shelvin Mack added 13 points, while Senior Guard Shawn Vanzant contributed 10 points to help the Bulldogs (26-9 overall) advance on to the Elite 8, where they’ll face No. 2 Florida on March 26 at 4:30 p.m.

“A lot of people just ignored us and said, ‘Aw, they’ll probably lose in the first or second round,'” Butler sophomore center Andrew Smith said. “Here we are again, trying to prove everybody wrong. We’ll try to win three more.”
