It marked Howard’s fourth consecutive victory and advanced its record to 6-3 overall, 5-1 against the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC). The Bison are currently third in the MEAC standings, trailing only N.C. A&T (9-0 overall , 6-0 MEAC) and N.C. Central (7-2 overall, 5-1 MEAC).

Newton then tossed a 37-yard touchdown to Ezzard in the third quarter to give Howard its first lead of the game, 27-23. He later ran in a touchdown to  push the Bison lead to 34-23.  Both teams exchanged field goals in the fourth quarter to set the final score at 37-26.
