NBA stand-out Kevin Durant and recording artist Wale will kicked off their second annual Kevin Durant and Wale Celebrity Birthday Weekend, Sept. 17-19, in the District.
Celebrity attendees included the NBA’s John Wall (Washington Wizards), James Harden (Oklahoma City Thunder), Ty Lawson (Denver Nuggets); the NFL’s DeAngelo Hall (Washington Redskins); comedian Li’l Duval; rappers J. Cole, Yo Gotti, Roscoe Dash, Curren$y, Young Money; and R&B singer, Chrisette Michele.
Launched in 2009, the Kevin Durant and Wale Celebrity Birthday Weekend evolved to a charity weekend in 2010, raising money and awareness for youth programs that promote nonviolence. A portion of the weekend’s proceeds will go to local DC charter schools and charity: water a non-profit organization bringing clean, safe drinking water to people in developing nations. The weekend’s events included “School of Rock”, a mentoring initiative; the “Back 2 School Celebrity Bowling Tournament” and various birthday celebrations at D.C. area nightspots.
