The father of mega-star singer Chris Brown finds singer Rihanna an engaging, attractive woman but, he recently told the New York Daily News, he believes his son should not be in an intense personal relationship with her.
“I personally really didn’t want him and Rihanna back together,” Clinton Brown, 48, said in an exclusive interview with the Daily News.
Brown told the interviewer of his concerns that the roller-coaster romance could end tragically, citing other famous celebrities.
“I hate to use examples, but Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston and Amy Winehouse — I mean I could go on and on!”
Speaking in his modest bungalow in Tappahannock, Va., a small town an hour northeast of Richmond, Va. he said “Is that a given — that you can’t have fortune and fame without (death) being the end result?”
He explained that he met Rihanna “years ago” and that she “was very respectful and polite as well.”
“She’s beautiful, she’s exotic, she’s successful,” Clinton said.
Still, he said, “You have to have a balance in a relationship. You have to have someone who is spontaneous and whimsical but you also have to have someone who is grounded and logical.”
Clinton was in Los Angeles in 2009 when Brown assaulted Rihanna en route to the Grammy Awards ceremony. The senior Brown said, while he would not share details about the attack, the entire story had not yet been told.
“One has to assume because they are back together that it wasn’t one-sided,” he said. “You just have to imagine it was a circumstance in which they both had a disagreement.”
If there are to be children in the future of their relationship, there would have to be behavior changes, he said.
Rihanna “would make a good mom. I think she would probably have to change some of her antics — the party attitude would probably have to change,” Clinton said. “I don’t think they would just whimsically and spontaneously have a child with them being in this mode. That’s why I don’t see it happening — but anything’s possible, man.”
