
Homicides continue in D.C. The latest involves a daytime shooting that left a Southeast, D.C. man dead near a District park on May 12, according to Metropolitan Police.
Police said they found Sheldon Kevin Robinson, 28, suffering from gunshot wounds in the 3700 block of Ely Place SE. According to a police report, officers responded to a shooting near Fort Dupont Park at 3:23 p.m. D.C. Fire and EMS pronounced Robison dead at the scene. Robinson was then transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.
Spokesperson for the department Aquita Brown said no arrests have been made. She told the AFRO May 16, “Detectives are actively investigating this case. More updates will be released as they become available.” Crime data from the police department show 45 homicides in D.C. as of May 17, a 2 percent increase from the same time a year ago.
The data shows that a majority of the city’s homicides are occurring east of the Anacostia River with 21 homicides in Ward 7 and 12 homicides in Ward 8, as of May 18.
