Ravens Andre Smith Partner to Provide 80,000 Pounds of Fresh Fruit & Vegetables to Families Impacted by COVID-19

BALTIMORE, MD (Sunday, July 12, 2020) – Councilman Leon F. Pinkett, III , Baltimore Ravens Andre Smith, and TAP will be providing 4,000 boxes of fresh fruit and produce in the Greater Mondawmin Community, Saturday July 18, 2020. The distribution will be held at Baltimore City Community College Liberty Campus, South Pavilion, 2600 Liberty Heights Avenue from 12pm-3:00pm.
Councilman Pinkett is excited about this partnership with TAP, an organization that is known for serving inner city communities throughout the country. The COVID-19 pandemic has shed light on a number of disparities that exist in far too many sections of Baltimore. Food insecurity is a factor that leaves both communities and families vulnerable and less resilient.” said Councilman Leon F. Pinkett, III, Baltimore City Council 7th District.
Each vehicle will receive a minimum of 2 boxes of food. 80,000 pounds of food will be available: one box containing both fruits and vegetables (apples, oranges, yams, potatoes, carrots and greens) and a (Harvest select) box containing only vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, romaine lettuce, onions and cilantro).
In accordance with local CDC guidelines, all boxes will only be available to people in vehicles via a drive-thru system that has been put in place to allow for social distancing.
People will need to remain in their vehicles as volunteers will load the boxes. No ID is required to receive service. Walk-ups will not be allowed.
TAP has taken an active approach to support those impacted by the Covid19 pandemic. “ Right now the country has its highest unemployment rate since the great depression.
Almost 40 million people are unable to work right due to COVID-19. “We want to be leaders when it comes to combating hunger and ensuring that families have free healthy meal options.”says Chris Rogers TAP Executive Director. Over the last two months TAP’s COVID-19 relief efforts resulted in feeding over 50,000 families & households in San Jose, CA, Birmingham AL, and our next stop is Baltimore ,MD. We know first-hand how this
pandemic has affected our community. In attendance will be State Senator Antonio Hayes, 40th District, Baltimore Mayor Bernard “Jack” C. Young, and members of the Baltimore City Council.
Together Assisting People (TAP) is a 501c3 that was founded by former University of Alabama 2009 National Champion, Community Partners include; Coastal Sunbelt Produce, Baltimore City Community College, Microsoft, Coca Cola, The SVE Firm, Baltimore Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, We Our Us Movement and The Jackie Robinson Baseball League.
