Three ongoing investigations concluded with the capture and arrest of suspects in Hyattsville and Capitol Heights. 

Murder Suspect Finally Captured After Escape

After an extensive manhunt lasting more than a week following a daring escape without his clothes, Duron Hudson of Hyattsville was arrested August 14 by members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force.

Hudson, 18, is suspected of killing George Hendrix, 22, of Southeast D.C., on June 22 and was apprehended in the 300 block of K Street.  He evaded capture initially after law enforcement authorities tried to arrest Hudson in a home on Belle Haven Road in Hyattsville August 9. He jumped out a window, broke through a police perimeter and ran off while naked. Police issued a shelter-in-place order for the area at the time, but he wasn’t found.

He was the prime suspect in the shooting death of George Hendrix, 22, of the 300 block of K Street Southeast  D.C. on June 22. Hudson has been charged with premeditated first-degree murder while armed. The investigation continues as still look for another person of interest in the fatal shooting.

Capitol Heights Man Charged With Murder

A 25-year-old Capitol Heights man now faces charges in connection with a domestic related homicide.  Daquan Odemns of the 5800 block of Folgate Court has been He’s charged with fatally shooting 31-year-old Donte Young of Waldorf on August 13.

Homicide Unit detectives arrested Odemns after he allegedly killed his girlfriend’s ex-husband following an argument in front of the residence on Folgate Court. Patrol officers arrived around 6:50 p.m. after reports of a shooting in the neighborhood. When officers arrived, they discovered the victim outside suffering from gunshot wounds and he was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The preliminary investigation, which is being conducted by the Prince George’s County Police Department, who investigates all homicides in the town of Capitol Heights, revealed Odemns fatally shot the victim during an argument. The victim and Odemns’ girlfriend are estranged spouses.

Odemns is charged with first-degree murder and related charges. He’s being held at the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.

Hyattsville Murder Suspect Arrested

Dereck Vaughn-Clark, 38, was arrested in connection with a fatal shooting earlier this month in Hyattsville.  Vaughn-Clark faces first and second-degree murder along with other charges in the death of 38-year-old Dante Campbell from Hyattsville. 

Investigators believe Vaughn-Clark and Campbell knew each other and the fatal shooting resulted from an argument between the two men on August 1.  In the early morning hours Hyattsville Police Department officers responded to the 4600 block of Burlington Road for the report of a shooting. After they arrived, the officers found Campbell outside of a home suffering from gunshot wounds. He died after being  taken to the hospital a short time later.

He was taken into custody in the District of Columbia before extradition to Prince George’s County where he was formally charged with fatally shooting.
