Bowie State University’s Donna Polk was named Central Interscholastic Athletic Association (CIAA) Coach of the Week on Jan. 3 for her outstanding coaching throughout two games last week.
The third-year coach led the BSU Lady Bulldogs basketball team to two impressive wins, defeating nationally ranked Gannon, 70-52, on day one of the BSU Lady Bulldogs Classic before edging Ferris State, 63-60, on the final day of the holiday classic tournament.
Bowie State senior Teaunsha Robinson led the Lady Bulldogs with a team-high 14 points and a career-high 14 rebounds against Ferris State; the Baltimore, Md. native was named to the All Classic Team along with Tiara Adams (Ferris State), Julie Kleber (Gannon) and Alaura Jones (Virginia Union).
“Ferris State was a tough team and I’m proud of the ladies for sticking it out and having heart”, Coach Polk said. “Having T.T. (Teaunsha Robinson) back with us helps add energy, does a lot of things for us being tough inside”. ??Bowie State will open conference (CIAA) play at Fayetteville State University on January 6. Following that road trip, Bowie State will hosts three straight conference games, welcoming Winston-Salem State University on Jan. 10, Shaw University on Jan. 13 and St. Augustine’s College on Jan. 15.
