Dr. Gloria J. Gibson.

Dr. Gloria J. Gibson was recently named Senior Vice President for academic affairs and provost at Morgan State University in Baltimore.

Gibson will begin her new position at Morgan on Jan. 5 for the upcoming spring semester.

“Morgan is an institution of committed faculty, staff, and students,” Gibson told The Journal of Blacks in Higher Education. “The opportunity to be a member of the Morgan family and to build on its historic success is exhilarating.”

Gibson received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Southern Illinois University, and a Ph.D. from Indiana University, where she became a professor after graduation.

Gibson went on to become a professor and dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Arkansas State University. She then served as a professor of Communications Studies, executive vice president, and provost at the University of Northern Iowa.

“We were looking for an individual who is energetic, visionary and transformational, who can work with us to take this university to the next level of academic excellence and preeminence,” Morgan State University President David Wilson told the Journal. “I believe Dr. Gibson will be able to carry out that charge. She is a good fit for Morgan.”
