Edwards Reads Names of Gun Violence Victims in Maryland

Washington, D.C. – In 2015, 301 Marylanders have lost their lives to gun violence.  Today, Congresswoman Donna F. Edwards (MD-4) began to read their names on the floor of the House, urging Congressional action on commonsense gun laws.  On average in 2013, 91 Americans were killed by a gun every day, 31 from homicide.  To date in 2015, 297 mass shootings have occurred throughout the United States, 11 of which were in Maryland.
Rep. Edwards’ opening remarks as prepared for delivery:
“In just this year alone, Maryland has lost 301 lives to gun violence. That’s 301 families who have lost a mother, father, brother, sister, son, or daughter. Those families will never forget the loved ones that they’ve lost, and neither should this body. Today, I’m going to read their names aloud, and I urge my colleagues to listen, stand up, take on the National Rifle Association, and stop the flood of gun violence that is ravaging our communities in Maryland and across our country.”
