Edwards Statement Commemorating Mother’s Day
Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Donna F. Edwards (MD-4) released the following statement to commemorate Mother’s Day, observed on May 10, 2015.
“Mother’s Day is a time for us to honor the generous heart and strong spirit of mothers. On this day, I think of my own mother who is an example of strength and confidence. As mothers and women, we are often told that our ambitions are too lofty, that there are things we cannot do, but my mother never let that discourage her and I have done my best to follow her example.
“As we celebrate this year, I hope all Americans turn to mothers in the national conversation to strengthen and rebuild our communities. The voices of mothers across our country build trust and bring communities together. When media attention fades and protests die down, mothers maintain the calm and sustained pleas for the peace and accountability our nation needs and that our children deserve.”
“On this day, and every day, let us pledge to create more seats at the table for mothers and recommit to improve the lives of all mothers and their children.”
