Experience the essence of music through a variety of free, live entertainment performed by local artists this summer at The Mall at Prince Georges. The Prince George’s Arts & Humanities Council presents a Summer Concert Series Thursday afternoons from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the Food Court, debuting with the Marcus Mitchell Project on June 14. Shoppers and residents are invited to stop by for lunch and enjoy a variety of smooth jazz, Latin jazz, and contemporary jazz. The schedule is below.
June 14 – Marcus Mitchell Project
Marcus Mitchell, CEO and President of 24th Music, is a rising smooth jazz saxophone artist who has worked with Mike Phillips, Kim Waters and Destiny’s Child. The Marcus Mitchell Project features an exciting collection of accomplished musicians who will keep listeners on their feet all afternoon.
June 21 – The Vibe Collective
The Vibe Collective is dedicated to laying down tight grooves and inventive improvisations that typify the Afro-Cuban music scenes of New York and San Francisco in the late ’60s and beyond. Their Latin jazz sound pulls from influences such as blues, African music and funk.
June 28 – Indigo Love
Shoppers and residents will enjoy the sultry sounds of contemporary jazz vocalist Indigo Love. Indigo easily captivates audiences with her honest emotions, flawless delivery and strong storytelling abilities.
July 5 – Project Natale
This jazz quartet is a band of brothers playing music that has gained world respect for infusing the old and new, creating their own jazz sound. Joe (bass) and Lou Natale (drums) formed the group in 1998 and Carl Cornwell (tenor saxophone) and Bob Butta (piano) subsequently joined to round out the modern, jazz group.
